7-9-96

I know the fear you bear
From the years of mighty threats
Screaming through time
Warning you of the penalty to be faced
For breaking the silence
Carried on for generations.
Confusion
Many voices I hear.
Arguing.
Many pros and cons
For telling the story
Many have buried inside.
Afraid for safety,
It seems so much easier
To carry the cold, black secrets
Than to risk obliteration.
But isn’t the result one and the same
To speak or not to speak?
I will not be quieted-
You have stolen all I have
But you cannot kill my soul
Try as you might.
If not for me,
It is for the shivering, frightened ones
Who will undoubtedly follow.
