Pray For Me

Pray for me-
The one you turn away from
Because you dare not see the truth.
Pray for me-
The one who would bring tears to your eyes
If you let yourself feel.
And pray for me-
The one who cries inside,
The frightened child
Carrying scars inside,
As well as without,
Who has been through a personal holocaust.
A soul,
Possibly not unlike your own,
Who knows not the meaning of love,
Who many times went to be hungry
Facing the demons
That were sure to invade
What should have been sanctity.
Whose caregivers gave blows instead of care
Whose body was violated
By the hands who should have loved.
Whose lessons were not of life
But of pain.
Whose pillow, the only thing that listened
To tears and dreams
Blown to shreds.
Yes, pray for me
And those like me-
Maybe you,
Or someone you love
And will someday hold.
